Abstract:

This report provides childhood mortality statistics for the 28 countries which participated in Phase I of the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) program, otherwise known as DHS I. This report describes the methodology used to collect mortality data and calculate mortality rates: levels and trends in mortality levels; demographic and socioeconomic mortality differentials; and a summary of the analysis results.
