Abstract:

Men have often been perceived as having more pro-natalist views than women and as acting as a barrier to the contraceptive use. Recently, there has been a move toward recognizing the importance of the role of men in fertility, family planning, and reproductive health. The recent United Nations Conference on Population and Development in Cairo specifically called for equal participation of men and women in family planning and emphasized men's shared responsibility, promoting their active involvement in responsible parenthood and reproductive behavior, and recognizing their needs for reproductive health and family planning services.
